After months of speculation, through a post on Twitter made by Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon announced that the new series of The Lord of the Rings will be called “The Rings of Power” thus confirming the information that had been leaked, the series will premiere next September 2, 2022.

On the other hand, other details that were announced is that the story will be set in the exploration of events prior to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, in the period called “The Second Age”.
According to the synopsis, the screen will project “an era in which great powers were forged, the rise of kingdoms, the arrival of glory and their fall into ruins, the events in which implausible heroes were put to the test, hope hung on the finest of threads.” In addition, it was claimed that the “greatest” villain created by J.R.R. Tolkien, creator of the original saga, will be witnessed.
Among the possible facts, the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of Sauron and even the alliance between Elves and Men are listed.

Previously, Amazon Studios had reported that the Middle-earth series would be the most expensive production in history with an initial investment of 462 million dollars just for the first season, in addition to the payment of Amazon Prime Video for the rights of the saga to Tolkien Estate for an estimated 250 million dollars.
New Zealand is the main location of the first season of The Rings of Power, the showrunners and executive producers of the series, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay confirmed this through an interview where they assured that the place was chosen for being “majestic, with virgin coasts, forests and mountains”. The second season would be filmed in the UK.
